Innovative, electrifying, and zealous are three words that describe the passion and drive found in his music. Thriving in the music industry for over a decade, Bratten has been able to set himself apart from others with his ability to exude a unique sound, and stage presence.
Born and raised in Delaware, Bratten grew up in a musical family. He was influenced by his father, James Bratten Sr. who played the bass guitar and directed the choir at church. His mother and sister sang in the choir along with other local groups. Music was all around him.
Coming out of a musical family, he was introduced to the drums
at the age of two. At the age of ten he received his first keyboard, and after
a couple of years he found himself playing and loving the synth bass. He was inspired to learn the bass guitar immediately! As he felt the need to do when his synth bass keyboard stopped working on him out of town at the age of seventeen. He fell in love with the bass guitar and knew that it was going to be his primary instrument! Bratten is mulit-talented in many instruments including the acoustic guitar.
Gracing many stages, Bratten has had the opportunity to play with an plethora of artists including Drake, Jill Scott, Mark Ronson, Eric Roberson Musiq Soulchild, Mario Barrett, Fantasisa, Jaguar Wright, Flo Rida , Martha Munazzi, Tye Tribbett, Anthony Brown, to name a few. Bratten’s Discography includes the work of J. Cole “Born Sinner”, Tasha Cobbs “Grace”, JJ Hairston "No Reason to Fear", Tye Tribbett “Fresh”, Angela Johnson “It’s Personal”, as well as Musiq Soulchild “A Philly Soul Christmas”.
However, Bratten’s creative efforts do not stop there. He has also had the opportunity to display his talents with live televised performances including, “The David Letterman show” with Chamillionaire, The “American Music Awards” with Drake, Dick Clark’s “Rockin New Years Eve” with Flo Rida, The "McDonalds 365Black Awards" with various artists, and more.
Jay has a humble spirit with strong faith in God. He enjoys spending time with his family and helping others meet their musical needs.
